Developed by Dr Harald Blomberg and based on the work of Kerstin Linde, both from Sweden who works with people with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders. The therapy was inspired by the rhythmic and reflex movements, that babies automatically make before they learn to walk. Kerstin Linde modified these movements into rhythmic whole body exercises that can easily be used by people of all ages. The rhythmic movements provide an effective means to stimulate simultaneous activation of the kinesthetic, tactile, proprioceptive and vestibular senses to provide a strong flow of nerve impulses through the brainstem, the limbic system to the frontal lobes. If the flow of impulses from the vestibular system is insufficient, as can be seen in children labelled ADD and ADHD, the result may be low muscle tone and attention difficulties. Rhythmic exercises improve attention and muscle tone through the flow of impulses. Most children show quick changes after starting these movements and become calmer, more responsive, have increased focus and attention, increase eye-contact and show better social behaviour through increased interaction with their peers, potty training become much easier and the incidence of bed-wedding in young children largely decrease or stops altogether.
